Open Ice Initiative is an Ontario not-for-profit corporation. We applied to the Canada Revenue Agency for charitable registration in September 2026. Until registration is granted we cannot issue tax receipts, and gifts made before registration will not be receipted.

What changes when registration is granted
- We can issue official tax receipts for gifts made on or after the effective date of registration. Gifts made before that date will not be receipted.
- Our charitable registration number will be shown on this page and in the footer of every page of this site.
- We will update this page on the day we hear from the Canada Revenue Agency.
Tax receipts and sponsorship
Can I get a tax receipt for a gift made now?
No. We are not a registered charity yet, so we cannot issue tax receipts.
Why not?
Only a registered charity can issue official donation receipts. We applied to the Canada Revenue Agency in September 2026. Until registration is granted, gifts made before registration will not be receipted, even after we are registered.
Can my company treat a sponsorship as a business expense?
Ask your accountant. Sponsorship brings logo placement and named programme rights, and some companies record it as marketing. This is not tax advice.
When will you hear?
The Canada Revenue Agency's published service standard is up to nine months for a complete application. We will update this page the day we hear.
