Terms of service

Open Ice Initiative Inc. is a nonprofit corporation registered in Ontario, based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was founded in 2025 and it is run by a student executive with professional coaching staff on the ice.

We are not a registered charity. We cannot issue charitable tax receipts, and we say so everywhere money is mentioned. If somebody tells you otherwise, they are wrong.

This website, open-ice.org, is operated by us. Contact for anything on this page: andrew.adair@ucc.on.ca.

You may read, print, link to and share anything on this site. You may quote it with attribution. You do not need to ask.

You may not scrape it at a rate that degrades it for anybody else, present it as your own work, use it to train a model that reproduces our photographs of children, or use our name or crest in a way that suggests we endorse you when we do not.

We do not require an account and we do not have a login. There is nothing here to sign up for.

Every figure we publish comes from an invoice, a sign in sheet or a count, and we correct it when it changes. The changelog records every change we make.

Camp dates, venues, capacity and staffing can change, sometimes at short notice, usually because of ice availability. Nothing on this website is an offer of a place at a camp. A place exists only when we have confirmed it to you in writing and you have returned a signed registration form and waiver.

Statements about the tax treatment of corporate support are general information and not tax advice. Confirm it with your own accountant.

Applying is free and always will be. There is no fee at any stage, for anything.

We reply to every application, usually within three days. We receive more applications than we have places, so an application is not a place and we will always tell you plainly which one you have.

Give us information that is true. We ask about a child's age, health and equipment sizes because we have to fit them and keep them safe. An inaccurate medical answer is the one thing on the form that can hurt somebody.

Nobody from Open Ice Initiative will ever ask you for money, for bank details, or for a payment of any kind. If somebody does, it is not us. Tell us on 437-775-6292.

Donations are taken through GoFundMe, on GoFundMe's terms, and we never see your card details. Corporate support is arranged directly by email and invoiced.

Money given goes to ice time, coaching, insurance, lunches and equipment. Nobody on the executive is paid, including the founder.

Again, because it matters: we are a nonprofit, not a registered charity, and we cannot issue a charitable tax receipt. A corporate sponsorship may be deductible as a business expense; that is a question for your accountant, not for us.

We link to news coverage, partner organisations and a fundraising platform. We do not control those sites, we are not responsible for their content, and their privacy practices are theirs and not ours.

A link is not an endorsement. In particular, the outlets in our newsroom reported on us as a news story. They are not partners and they have not endorsed us.

We may change this site, the programme, the camp schedule or these terms. When we change something that matters we record it in the changelog with the date.

We may decline or withdraw a place at a camp where a child's safety or another child's safety requires it, or where information given to us was untrue. We will tell you why, in writing, and you can ask us to look at it again.

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada that apply in it. Any dispute belongs to the courts of Ontario.

If one part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.
