What we have built into this site, what we know is not perfect, and how to tell us about a barrier.

Our commitment
Open Ice Initiative exists to remove barriers. A website that some people cannot use would be a poor way to say that. We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 level AA.
What this site does
- Text contrast well above the AA threshold. White on our navy measures 9.9 to 1
- Skip links to the main content, the navigation and the footer
- Visible keyboard focus on every interactive element
- A navigation menu that opens with a keyboard, reports its state, and closes on Escape
- Descriptive alternative text on every photograph
- Explicit width and height on every image so the page does not jump while loading
- Scrolling banners that stop when your system asks for reduced motion, and a pause control for everyone else
- Semantic headings, landmarks and real links rather than click handlers
What we know is not finished
- We have not yet completed a full assistive technology audit with a screen reader user
- Some PDF downloads on this site were produced for print and are not fully tagged for screen readers. Ask us and we will send the content in another format
